STAS BAGS. FATE. 2016

Overhead passageway’s wall, acrylic paint

The artistic practice of Stas Bags, who came to Zarya Artist-in-Residence from St Petersburg, began with graffiti. When residing in Vladivostok in 2016, he returned to this medium. In creating this wall painting, the artist sought to go beyond the scope of the subject itself, expanding the interpretation possibilities that are inherent in it.

In this work, Stas Bags focuses on the properties of matter and explores their interaction. The wood is hard, even rough, and fabric thrown on top of it creates a feeling of defenselessness and fragility. In FATE, every detail of the image argues with the idea of predestination and suggests reviewing the characteristics that we usually prescribe to the material.
